Implementing a school streets plan here could lead to traffic chaos
Thursday, 21st March 2024
• CAMDEN Council’s idea of implementing designated school streets across the borough raises serious concerns about the specific consequences for Hollycroft Avenue, where the proposed measures will inevitably escalate some existing congestion and traffic issues during peak and school-run hours.
The diversion of school-related traffic onto Rosecroft and Hollycroft Avenues will make it more challenging for residents to navigate our roads, and will make it difficult to exit our neighbourhood streets during peak hours.
In this context, it is important to appreciate that the forthcoming construction at the
O2 Centre in Finchley Road also threatens to increase traffic through our neighbourhood.
This fact, coupled with the proposed school street scheme, presents an alarming prospect of prolonged chaos and inconvenience for Hollycroft Avenue residents.
In our view, it makes little sense to impose an 18-month trial period in the absence of valid data on the current levels of traffic density, pollution, and noise during the schools’ term time for a benchmark against which to judge the necessity of going forward with the council’s proposals.
The issues are not straightforward and we urge the council to engage with us transparently and collaboratively in addressing concerns, with the aim of finding viable solutions that benefit all stakeholders.
