I want to reassure Camden residents that the safety of our young people remains our first concern
Thursday, 26th April 2018
• ON Saturday a Camden young person lost their life in Islington and a young person was seriously injured in Camden.
I am deeply saddened by this needless violence and our thoughts are with the victims and their families.
I want to reassure Camden residents that the safety of our young people remains our first concern. Police are working closely with the council and there are extra patrols in impacted areas. We have put extra resource into youth activities to help those most at risk.
In December we set up a youth safety taskforce to look at what more we can do to keep young people safe including learning from the Glasgow public health work.
We have been working closely with victims, ex-offenders, youth workers, bereaved families and community groups to ask what more we can do to keep our young people safe.
We are committed to a youth safety fund to support the recommendations of the community.
I have been awed by the community response of the people of Camden.
This is not a place where the loss of young lives will be ignored. Every young person in Camden is an important part of our community and we pledge to stick with them and work for their safety.
