The sad closure of St Dominic’s

• I STARTED in St Dominic’s school in 1941 when the Auxiliary Fire Service were using the ground floor with their engines parked in the playground, (Final day for primary school after 154 years, July 20).

Head was Mr Naughton, deputy heads were Miss Moverly and Mr Grainger. We used to pick up shrapnel walking to school.

We fed a large number of colleges and secondary schools. On leaving we attended an old scholars’ association which was organised by Miss Moverly.

It is sad to see it closed.
