I expect value for money

• MY council tax has risen by 6.2 per cent, about £3 per week. Like most things I buy I expect value for money.

In Gospel Oak we see our streets strewn with fly-tipping, broken pavements, potholes, bins not emptied, one of our most loved schools about to be closed, a derelict building site that should have had nearly 300 homes built on it by 2017, 40 less council rent flats, a harebrained scheme to block off our thoroughfares, sending cars along a narrow road with a nursery and elderly person’s home on it, and a total regard for residents’ views.

Readers may recall that two years ago cabinet members, who supposedly are elected to ensure that things like this do not happen, voted themselves a huge £10k increase. We do not know if this actually was paid, nor is it clear whether there is to be another rise in 2021/22.

Meanwhile the community centre continues to provide food supplies to over 150 local families a week, albeit with some council support.

If we had a choice of another supplier of these services, how many Gospel Oak residents would stay with Camden Council?
