I can’t vote but I know this country deserves better than a manifesto based on fear

• THE last nine months have been for me and, I suspect, for some of the other approximately 2,999,999 EU nationals in the country, a relentless discovery that the ship we boarded years ago, and have worked for, contributed to and called home, has transmuted into a rollercoaster with no seat belts that may very soon eject us because… well, we didn’t have comprehensive health insurance or we took a study break.

Theresa May has reminded us that, whether a nurse, a social worker, a teacher, a barista or a surgeon, we are more useful as leverage in negotiations.

I am a EU national, born in Italy, but proud to call London my home. I have studied here, have worked here, my friends live here, I have been active in my community, campaigned with my MP and continue working with her for that community.

Mrs May is trying to scare voters into believing that choosing anything but a hard Brexit will divide this country and damage our economy. I will not have a vote on June 8 but the country I have come to know deserves better than a manifesto based on fear.
