I back the Camden Highline project as bold and imaginative
Thursday, 16th March 2023
• CAN I just voice my support for the Camden Highline against the barrage of opposition?
I am a resident of Jeffreys Street, about as close to the proposed highline as you can get, and I am sick of anonymous postings through my letterbox, mostly photocopies of letters to the CNJ, claiming to be the voice of residents. I don’t know who is doing this, but think they should have the courage to name themselves.
The highline is a bold an imaginative project. It makes great social use of a disused section of the railway and the entirely wasted space that is Camden Gardens.
Yes, it will bring in tourists, but this is Camden Town, already one of the most popular tourist destinations in London. And trains make more noise than people.
What astonishes me is the negativity of most of the comments. Yes, there are a few issues that need to be resolved, the plan is not perfect, but the project itself is ambitious and exciting.
If you have ever experienced the New York High Line (originally opposed then embraced by its residents) you might have a glimpse of what could be achieved. We are not all nimbys here.
