I am proud to be standing for Labour in the Fortune Green by-election

• I AM proud to be standing as the Labour candidate in the Fortune Green by-election on July 22.

Covid-19 has exposed so much about what needs to change in our country after 11 long years of Tory misrule. I was furloughed last year, so I threw myself into helping those around me as a Covid volunteer.

I delivered food by bike to residents and neighbours in Fortune Green, Cricklewood and Kilburn, and started a WhatsApp support group for my street.

As a private renter, I see first-hand the need for more genuinely affordable housing in Camden and the dangers of the Tories’ rush to end eviction protections for those in the private rented sector.

And as a member of the local West Hampstead Hockey Club, and with experience working as a project and event manager in the arts and charity sector, I feel I can now build on my local experience to give even more to my community.

As a local person I understand and care about the needs of the area, from environmental improvements to genuinely affordable housing in Camden, to unemployment support, to ensuring women feel safe on the streets.

I will listen and work with Fortune Green residents and work hard to make the ward an even better place. A councillor who really wants to get things done can make a huge difference to their area.

The local Tories are claiming that they are the ones to beat Labour. I urge Fortune Green voters not to let them seize a council seat. Think of the boon this would be for the Conservative party.

On July 22 please vote for a fairer Fortune Green and vote Labour.

LORNA GREENWOOD
Labour Candidate for Fortune Green ward
