HS2 will have a devastating impact on the borough

Thursday, 11th May 2017

• I WAS alarmed to read on the New Journal website that Tory candidate Tim Barnes is quoted as saying: “On the High Speed Rail 2 issue, for example, the council spent public money on increasingly desperate ways to try and stop something that was clearly, from a national perspective, going to happen, (Tories select Tim Barnes to take on Keir Starmer in Holborn and St Pancras).

Of course, Camden ought to have put up resistance to a project that will devastate our borough, the loss of open space and trees will be truly devastating for residents in the Euston area.

We will lose all of St James Gardens and all but 10 trees on Euston Square Gardens as well as numerous mature street trees. Businesses in Drummond Street will be hit by the construction works and homes will be lost on Regent’s Park Estate.

I hope people will remember this at election time and vote for a candidate willing to stand up for local people.
