• FURTHER to Primavera Boman-Behram’s letter I wonder if the vast majority of the public are aware of the injustices and key issues against HS2, that are causing such fear, disruption, suffering and insecurity to an unprecedented number of people all over England, (The street are filthy and the air is toxic, May 17).

And to those who are being forced to live in Camden on a massive construction site (now, and for the next 17 years) breathing in illegal, dangerous and polluted air, exacerbated by HS2’s construction. It is outrageous and a national scandal that HS2 are peddling a train that is already obsolete, before they’ve even laid a track.

And having so far carried out demolitions, evictions, construction work, land-grabbing of parks and open spaces, destruction of oxygen-giving trees, and wildlife habitats, and polluting and poisoning us on such an immense scale, they have admitted that they have started all this work with no plans yet completed for HS2’s construction in Euston.

How on Earth can they be allowed to start all this work without a proper plan in place? Surely, as well as being immoral, this infringes human rights law. The public are not being told the truth.

For instance, a young mother recently voiced her concerns about HS2s destruction of trees, only to be told by an HS2 / council representative that, the saplings they are planting give as much oxygen as the mature trees HS2 have demolished, and are much better for the environment than fully grown ones. How they insult our intelligence.

And the public need to know that HS2 are just about to carry out massive additional demolitions in Camden, adding more environ-mental damage and air pollution. Their track record is abysmal, and however much they try to dress it up, HS2 is tainted, and a discredit to everyone involved in it.

It is clear that it is to HS2’s advantage to keep the public in the dark as to the damage it is doing to our health and quality of life.

So much so, that it is quite ironic that The Queen and Sir David Attenborough, having just set up a project to protect tree’s and forests in the Commonwealth, seem to be completely oblivious of the mass deforestation being carried out by HS2 of our woods, forests, green open spaces and wildlife, all over England, and what’s going on in their very own backyard!

The Queen herself gave royal assent to this shambolic project. And even Michael Gove is jumping on the band-wagon, wanting to create National Parks. Yet they all seem to be carefully ignoring the environmental impact and damage that HS2 is doing, and its costs.

Apart from being the most expensive train on Earth, HS2 is costing the earth! And we are being forced into an environmental nightmare by greedy developers and an élite few, who are the only ones who will benefit from this insane, inhumane, cruel, and short-sighted catastrophe.
