HS2 construction will kill off the fragile and elderly

Open letter to Theresa May

• JUST want to draw your attention to the fact that during the construction period for HS2 in Euston and Camden, Camden’s own website says the impact on air quality will be an increase of 6.3ug/m3 in nitrogen dioxide in parts of Drummond Street, pushing pollution levels up to twice the legal EU limit in this area.

Even a small increase in an already elevated air polluted area leads to the inflamed lung condition which then acts adversely on the heart, and so will result in impaired lung growth of the neighbourhood children, while killing off the fragile and elderly.

People will be lining up in the emergency rooms, clogging an already struggling NHS system, with heart attacks, lung disease, and asthma. The Euston construction period will go on for a minimum of 17 years. This is all illegal by EU law…
