How to get action

Smashed electricity bollards in Queen’s Crescent have now been fixed
• ERIC Gordon will be remembered not just for shining his light on the major activities of the council and other organisations that blight the lives of Camden residents, activities which great efforts continue to be made to keep them secret.
Macro issues such as the failing Community Investment Programme “adventure”, the failure to collect some £4million on the Talacre land sale, and the Chalcots bungled PFI refurbishment are but some.
He, and his team of journalists, actually made things happen when us mere mortals battered our heads against the brick wall of council inaction.
A couple of years ago the council ejected an arts programme for young people from its premises in Queen’s Crescent for seven months, demanding a rent of £10k.
Within a couple of days of Eric’s article in the CNJ the organisation was back in its premises and the rent waived.
The paper is continuing to get things done when residents fail. Two weeks ago I wrote in the Letters column about the damaged and dangerous bollard – bare live electricity wires protruding – in Queen’s Crescent, (A £1m plus grant could have helped tackle some of these problems, April 15).
This had been reported many times over the previous months, ignored by the market mismanagement officers.
I am happy to report, as the photo above shows, it has now been repaired. Without the intervention of the CNJ I am sure that it would still be a hazard.
