Accident waiting to happen in Belsize Park

• THE traffic-light-controlled crossing with its central island has been removed from outside Belsize Park tube station. Is it going to be replaced?

The zebra-crossings either side are too far distant, so pedestrians, and particularly tube-travellers, are throwing themselves into the passing traffic. How long before an accident (see picture above)?

Is this an effort to increase vehicle flow, given that a lane has now been taken from them in favour of a cycle lane?
