How about cracking down on the sins of the Town Hall?
Thursday, 28th November 2024

Businesses in Primrose Hill, including Home Kitchen, a newly established non-profit restaurant which employs homeless people, have had rubbish fines imposed on them
• THE expression “Do as you would be done by” might usefully be extended to our Town Hall as it cracks down on so-called “fly-tippers” in Primrose Hill, (Shops hit by £1,000 fines blame the council for failing to collect rubbish, November 21).
Of course, draconian measures would be welcomed against real fly-tippers who can turn areas into rubbish tips overnight. Literally. But it’s not the Town Hall itself. They’ve outsourced that dirty work to a private company.
How about if we contracted an independent company to crack down on the sins of the Town Hall? Say levying a £1,000 fine every time they fail to respond promptly to a tenant’s plea to fix their heating? Or £1,000 for every unjust parking fine levied.
The trouble is, such fines would be paid for by us, the council tax payers. It all adds to the sense we have that we just can’t win!
