IT took three stunning goals from hat-trick hero Lee McGee to fire a team of dads from Brookfield Primary School into a winning position against a side of fathers from Yerbury Primary at the weekend.

The friendly showdown – organised between two sets of fathers who separately get together for a kick-about each week – saw Brookfield net a thrilling 6-5 victory at Acland Burghley School in Tufnell Park on Sunday.

Hotshot McGee, known for his powerful left foot, stunned Yerbury with an opening salvo.

Goals from Oliver Lewis – recently elected as a Labour councillor in the Highgate ward and Brookfield’s chair of governors – further added to the scoreline, while team manager Steve Brown also got on the score sheet. In stifling heat that the exhausted players said was akin to the sort of conditions England players will face in Brazil this weekend, the game saw Brookfield take the lead but Yerbury battled back to set-up a nail-biting finish.

Brookfield’s boss Steve now wants other dads of primary school age children across Camden and Islington to take up the challenge and play a series of friendly games over the summer.

He can be contacted on steve@charity-accounts.org.uk to organise matches.
