FORGET Spurs vs Arsenal – there was only one derby worth watching on Saturday as two teams went head-to-head in a titanic battle of bragging rights.

Camden’s Year 6 district team tackled neighbouring rivals Islington in the group stages of the Lester Finch Trophy at Regent’s Park.

Camden wasted little time giving their fans something to cheer as Caleb Adomako-Mesah fired home the opening goal after Lanre Owoborode’s initial shot was charged down by the Islington keeper.

The hosts doubled their lead when Teddy Jones scored the goal-of-the-game, unleashing a controlled low drive through a crowded penalty box and into the back of the net.

Hotshot Lanre struck twice in the second half to wrap up a resounding 4-0 win for Camden.

Manager Abul Koyar, who runs the Camden team with Shaun Taylor, is confident his side will now qualify for the knockout stages. “We’ve won two games out of two and are well placed at the top of the group,” he said.

“We’ve got tough games against Lewisham and Bexley to come but with the togetherness this team is now showing I’m confident that we can progress.”

Islington manager Marc Stocking pulled the positives from the game. “Even when we were behind we kept trying to play good football and score goals,” he said.

“Hopefully we can bounce back in our next game.”

West End FC celebrate scoring eight

PLAYERS from West End FC will be targeting more goals on Friday when they return to Market Road to face Fusion in the Camden and Islington Youth League Under-10s Challenge Cup.

The free-scoring side netted eight in the preliminary round.

Nico Berczeller and Zain Duberry both bagged a brace, while Amani Richards, Reggie Murphy, Marcus Newman and Taylor Bradbury were also all on target in the game against Cally Stars.

Isledon Wolves will also be looking to march on in the cup when they tackle AC United in their first-round fixture. Sidney Kershaw-Shirley and Lucas Panayi scored two goals apiece as Wolves beat TT Sapo Verde in the preliminary round.

George Bennett also found the back of the net in a 5-2 victory.

Wolves crashed out of the Under-8s Cup at the first hurdle after losing a nail-biting shoot-out against Cally Stars.

Lyes Djellali opened the scoring with a tremendous shot that flew past the Cally keeper. The side failed to build on their lead, however, and went on to concede a late equaliser, before losing on penalties.
