Homeless and overcrowded households have not been matched to available housing

• I UNDERSTAND that Camden has a large population of both unhoused adults and overcrowded households.

Having spotted what appeared to be quite a large number of unoccupied homes in the borough, I contacted Camden to request they share the details of how many Camden council-owned or operated residential properties were unoccupied.

They kindly and swiftly ran a search and shared with me the results. I was surprised and saddened to learn that as of July 19 there were 696 unoccupied properties in Camden and a further 147 hostel spaces.

The demands on the council are undeniably sizeable, and this year has presented no shortage of additional challenges. But it is a failure for the wellness of our community where homeless and overcrowded households have not been matched to available housing.
