The underground toilets in Parlway
• THANK you for highlighting the issue of safety facing women and girls who need to use the public loos at the end of Parkway in Camden.
To see your headline splashed “Ladies told: share loos with gents” across the front page of the April 14 CNJ was so encouraging to women. Our great local paper has once again led on a subject that has now given us a voice.
Cllr Richard Cotton recognises the issues and has been pushing for the necessary repairs for almost a year. Camden must urgently find the funds to make the necessary repairs to the men’s toilets; after all they have been able fund the painting of numerous rainbow crossings and more in the last 24 months.
Women’s and children’s safety, dignity, and privacy must be a number one priority for Camden Council after May 5.
It’s an issue being highlighted, both in Camden and nationwide, by one of the biggest grass-roots movement of women since the Suffragettes, Women’s Rights Network and their #RespectMySex campaign.
All election candidates must make clear their commitment to support policies that prioritise single-sex spaces in toilets, changing rooms, hostels and refuges, schools and all health services. Safeguarding has to be top of the list again.
