Highgate Harriers trio shine in Brum

A TRIO of Highgate Harriers were among the high flyers for Middlesex County in the most prestigious school track and field competition in the country at the weekend.

Harriers Hannah Viner, Georgia Fear and Oliver Light all shone for their county in the English Schools Championships in Birmingham.

Viner broke her personal best when she finished fourth of 13 in the senior girls steeplechase in 5:6.70.

Fear was third in a field of 16 runners in the intermediate girls 3000m in 9:52.71. 

And 14-year-old Light, running in his first major competition, came second of nine runners in his heat for the 800m junior boys race and was sixth in the final with 2:3.95.

Meanwhile, Emmanuel Olutunji equalled his best time in his senior boys 100m heat, sprinting across the line in 11.1 seconds.

Viner was in action again on Sunday in the Southern Senior Inter-Counties at Mile End when she came fifth for Middlesex in the ‘A’ 1500m in 4:53.71.

On Saturday the Harriers were in Luton for the penultimate of five Southern League Division 2 North events, finishing second behind Harrow on 230 points with 184 points.
