High-rises of 19 storeys are unacceptable

• I HAVE just received the latest consultation email regarding the Murphy’s Yard development at Gospel Oak, which continues to show a range of high-rise buildings of up to 19 storeys in height.

How can this proposal be credible in a borough which is world-famous for its high-density, low-rise, developments such as Alexandra Road, pioneered by architect Neave Brown and his team working under Sydney Cook in the 1970s?

In addition the “illustrative views” show that the proposed high-rise development will obtrude into and spoil the wonderful panoramic view of the whole of London from Parliament Hill, one of the great views of the world that is comparable to the views in cities such Hong Kong and Rio de Janeiro.

The developers should be told clearly that high-rise buildings that violate our environment are unacceptable in Camden, and they need to go back to the drawing board to achieve their objectives with a low-rise scheme. If Neave Brown could do it at Alexandra Road, why can’t they?
