High-rise buildings are not on here
Friday, 13th December 2019
• I HAVE read the letters from Sue Shepherd, Tom Muirhead, Ben Castell and Nick Bradfield (November 21, 28 and December 5), and visited the workshops concerning the development of the Murphy site.
I support the view that high-rise tower blocks are now discredited, especially since the Grenfell Tower fire disaster, and should not be included on the site.
I live in the Dartmouth Park Conservation Area and we too have some of the low-rise, high-density housing, cited by Tom Muirhead, in Highgate Newtown, now named the Whittington estate.
I do support the retention of the trees, and the planting of new ones, in the Murphy site development. I also support a cycle route through the site, which should be separate from where children and the elderly live.
Also the site will need infrastructure, such as a GP surgery and other community facilities.
