THERE were gallant goalkeepers, defiant defenders and hat-trick heroes aplenty on Saturday as scores of footballers from across Camden and Islington flocked to Regent’s Park in search of silverware.

Youngsters from Totally Goal FC certainly had plenty to celebrate as a day of pulsating cup and league action in the Camden and Regent’s Park Youth League ended with the club winning four trophies.

Supporters didn’t know who to cheer for as the Totally Goal Hawks took on club-mates The Eagles in the Under-11s League Cup final.

Only penalties could separate the sides as the entertaining cup contest ended goalless.

In the end it was The Hawks who were flying higher as Theo Browne and Freddie Bonfield both scored their spot kicks to seal a 2-1 victory.

Both goalkeepers came off the pitch to well-deserved applause, with Hawks’ No 1 Nico Smith saving three penalties, while Eagles’ No 1 Ben Gamage saved two.

Totally Goal also netted a double in the Under-13s age group with The Eagles being crowned ‘B’ League champions, and The Hawks taking the runners-up spot.

There was also a hat-trick of wins for West End FC.

Striker Sonny O’Leary won and scored a penalty as West End beat LSS Academy 1-0 to clinch the Under-10s ‘B’ League Cup.

Burt Thorne made sure West End Under-12s were also celebrating as he scored a hat-trick to guide them to a 3-1 win over One Strike in the Seven-vs-Seven League Cup final.

The One Strike team didn’t feel too down in the dumps, however, as they were presented with their championship trophy having won the Under-12s ‘A’ League.

There was also a trophy for the West End Under-11s side, who are playing up an age group, as they took the runners-up spot in the Under-12s Nine-vs-Nine ‘B’ League, finishing the season just two points behind champions Honest Sausage FC.

There was double delight for Queen’s Park Sharks. Star player Jake Caplan scored a hat-trick as their Under-9s team beat Muswell Hill to win the ‘B’ League Cup. Lloyd Day chipped in with two goals, while Zac Berger was also on target as they ran out 6-1 winners.

Queen’s Park Sharks also won a new fan as Islington Mayor Richard Greening showed his support for the Camden and Regent’s Park Youth League by turning up to present them with the Under-12s Nine-vs-Nine ‘A’ League title.

They won the title courtesy of a better goal-difference than Muswell Hill, who were all smiles as they picked up their runners-up medals.

There was still plenty of time to hand out trophies, with a single strike from Devontae Andrade earning Rugby Portobello Trust FC a 1-0 win over Pro Touch Soccer Academy in the Under-9s ‘A’ League Cup final. And Miloud Benyoucef scored the winner as Soccerskills Academy beat Camden Elite 1-0 in the Under-10s ‘A’ League Cup final.

Renowned FC picked-up the Under-14s ‘B’ League title after their barnstorming season in which they won all 12 of their games. There were also big cheers for all the teams who took part in the Under-6s and Under-7s Development League.
