Help fight the menace of leaf-blowers

• WE wholeheartedly agree with S Fielder (Leaf-blowers are costly and pointless, January 12) and their many arguments against leaf-blowers.
The ubiquitous leaf-blower is a year-round menace in parks, on streets and private gardens that blows insects into oblivion, destroys habitats and precious soil and leaves the air toxic and unbreathable.
The deafening, anti-social, noise prevents humans from enjoying nature, working, or resting. Several cities in the US and Europe have banned leaf-blowers already. It is possible!
There is a baffling lack of legislation around leaf-blowers. We have been contacting the mayor, local and national clean air organisations, DEFRA, politicians, etc. Nothing.
In a time, when clean air, climate change and mental health is on everybody’s mind and agenda, we can do better.
Imagine listening to birds instead of this unnecessary noise, enjoying the seasons, seeing more insects and leaving the hedgehogs their leaves.
The harmful effects of their noise, pollution and toxic fumes are known. An hour of leaf-blowing = a 1,100-mile car journey.
