Tenants should not have to pay for the mismanagement of energy supply
Thursday, 17th August 2023
• I HAVE just received a letter from Camden Council saying that I’m more than £1,000 in debt with heating charges 2022-2023 despite having used less heat than the previous year 2021-2022. For that year I was due a refund!
This means I have to repay this and my heating has gone up now from £23 per week (from £11 the year before) to £46 for the coming year.
I contacted Camden Council heating about this who said it was because the cost per kilowatt hour had gone up over the last two years due to the energy crisis and there had been a cut in government funding.
It seems that the charge of £23 for last year was just an estimate. I feel that they are totally incompetent and trying to fill the gap left by government underfunding and their own mismanagement, which tenants shouldn’t have to pay for.
