The heating increase by Camden is outrageous
• I READ with interest recently about Camden Council increasing rent for tenants.
What really concerns me and other tenants is not only the rent increase but tenants paying their heating costs directly to Camden. And that this year Camden have increased the cost of the heating to tenants by 125 per cent.
Compare that with last year, 2022, when the heating costs for tenants only increased by 15 per cent from the previous year 2021.
We are being told by the government that gas and electric wholesale prices will be going down within a few weeks, so what is Camden thinking of this hugely outrageous price increase? What is their justification for this extremely distressing new heating charge?
Poorer tenants cannot possibly afford such a huge increase, putting extra strain on the most vulnerable of Camden’s tenants.
We would not mind as much if the council had said they would be increasing for now, until such a time as the gas wholesale prices decrease, and then would decrease the price accordingly.
But there is no mention of this and when a tenant tries to contact someone at the council to ask about this new heating charge, they just get fobbed off with the line that they have to implement this increase.
Has anyone else been affected by this increase in their heating bill?
