THE Parliament Hill Fields running track will undergo a major revamp this spring after the City of London announced it would foot a bill that could reach an estimated £2million.

Without the work, the Heath’s athletics base risks losing accreditation from the UK Athletics body – which could in turn hit runners using the circuit with insurance issues.

The track, home to the Highgate Harriers and used for international athletics meetings, also hosts the popular “Night of the 10,000 PBs”.

The event attracts elite athletes hoping to clock up performance times to earn a spot at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

Work includes relaying the track, improving floodlights and sprucing up changing facilities, and is set to begin this month.
