ATHLETES donning the Highgate Harriers’ club colours all seem to be sharing the same new year’s resolution in 2013 – to find more space in the trophy cabinet.

The club picked up one cup after another on Saturday as they marauded across the muddy finishing line in the Middlesex Championships, which were held at Wormwood Scrubs.

The Harriers senior women’s squad ignited the prize trail as they lifted the overall team trophy.

Becky Penty took the runners-up spot with a time of 33 minutes, 27 seconds, finishing in touching distance of winner Tish Jones from the Belgrave Harriers.

Out of a field of 93 finishers, Katie Meredith was third in 34.23, Esther Evans took fifth place in 35.10 and Alexia Trafford was 16th in 37.57 – all securing valuable points for Highgate.

The winning didn’t stop there with Canadian junior Georgia Fear winning the girls’ Under-15s race, which was run over approximately 4,000m.

The West Hampstead schoolgirl clocked a time was 17.19 to top the podium.

Marjolaine Briscoe was ninth in 19.07, while Ellie Doolan was 12th in 19.14 to help the Highgate team take second place overall with 21 points.

A hat-trick of trophy success was wrapped up in the boys’ Under-15s age group where the efforts of Terry Fawden, Ben Hatch and James Millett earned Highgate another top team award.

The trio accumulated victorious points, with Fawden recording a time of 15.57 to finish seventh, Hatch ninth in 16.04 and Millett 12th in 16.35.
