RUNNERS from the Highgate Harriers are sharpening up nicely for spring and summer as they switch from cross-country to track and field and road races.
A strong team donned their club colours and made their way to Lee Valley on Sunday to take part in the Middlesex Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Among the Highgate highlights was Alma Diabate’s win in the senior high jump which came courtesy of a championships best of 1.30 metres.
On the track Diabate won the 200m in 28.02, with club-mate Amy Rutherford running 30.69 for second spot.
In the Under-17s age group Khristen McDermoth finished second in the final of the 200m with a time of 23.76. He was also third in the 60m final after crossing the finishing line in 7.38 seconds.
Georgia Fear won the Under-17s 1500m in 4:56.63, while her sister Lilah ran a fourth place finish in the same event in the Under-15s event.
The Highgate Harriers have four important fixtures coming up before the end of April. This Sunday is their opening fixture in the Southern Road Relay Championships, while on April 10 the club host their open meeting at Parliament Hill Fields.
