SOME of the best athletes in the country will race for 25 gruelling laps around Parliament Hill athletics track tonight (Thursday) in a bid to break the 30 minute mark for 10,000 metres.
The event, organised by Highgate Harriers, has been dubbed the “Night of the 10,000 Personal Bests” and will feature three races, motivational music and a live band.
Harriers’ team manager Ben Pochee says the club hope the evening will encourage runners from across the country to reach their potential while giving sports enthusiasts the chance to watch some of the best athletes in the country in action on their doorstep. He added: “We at Highgate firmly believe that racing standards can be further enhanced if our club runners have an annual opportunity to plan their training focus towards a trusted, competitive, quality-rich, pace-guided, and atmospheric 10,000m track event.”
The event begins at 7.30pm and is free to watch.
• On Wednesday, there were personal bests all round for a host of youngsters at the Watford Track Open Meeting. Terry Fawden and Georgia Fear were among the big performers, showing major improvements on their times in the 1500m.
