ALMOST 400 youngsters united against racism in football when they took part in Access to Sports’ Kick It Out Cup at Market Road in Islington.
The seven-a-side competition is an annual event in the charity’s calendar and this year it was bigger and better than ever as hundreds of players joined in a day of free-flowing football action.
“This is the first time we’ve had such a huge number of teams turning up and the young people knew it was not just a normal tournament,” said event organiser Mehmet Aygun.
“It was brilliant to see youngsters showing their support for such a good cause.”
Sixteen teams competed for honours in the Years 7 and 8 tournament, which was won by Islington-based side Al Ansar, who overcame AFC 1-0 in a close-fought final.
The Years 9 and 10 competition saw 23 sides go head-to-head, with Camden’s Somers Town Futures emerging victorious after beating Great Team 2-0 in a high-quality final. The day was sponsored by Islington Housing Services.
