ARSENAL Ladies are determined to reclaim their Continental Cup crown, according to star defender Emma Mitchell.
The Gunners were the first team to lift the trophy when it was launched in 2011, and went on dominate the competition by winning it three years in a row.
But last season they were denied a fourth successive victory when they were beaten 1-0 in the final by Manchester City, who they will face in the quarter-finals this time around following Tuesday’s draw.
Emma is eyeing another final appearance come October, admitting that she has already set her sights on silverware. “When it comes to Arsenal, we’re looking to win every competition,” she said.
“We won this cup two seasons ago and got to the final last year so we want to push on and reach the final this year too.
“I want to put Arsenal back where they belong, winning things and back into the Champions League – that’s where we should be.”
Arsenal Ladies wrapped up the group stage of the Continental Cup with a comprehensive 4-0 victory over Millwall Lionesses on Sunday.
Pedro Martinez Losa’s side scored three times in the opening 15 minutes with Danielle Carter, Rachel Yankey and Chloe Kelly all on target. Dominique Janssen chipped in with her first goal for the club, ensuring the Gunners finished top of their group with five wins out of five.
Emma believes the 100 per cent record will give her and her team-mates all the confidence they need in the knockout stages.
“Going through the group stage undefeated gives us a lot of confidence,” she told Arsenal.com. “It gives us the belief that we can beat anyone in the league.
“Keeping the same group of players together gives us consistency.”
