ARSENAL Ladies continued their winning streak in the Women’s Super League on Sunday with a 3-1 victory over Doncaster Belles at Meadow Park.

Having beaten the Belles 6-0 just 10 days earlier, there was an element of surprise that only a single strike from Danielle Carter separated the sides at half time.

The game was looking even more closely contested three minutes after the restart when winger Sue Smith curled home an equaliser after Gunners’ captain Steph Houghton carelessly gave the ball away.

Doncaster’s time on equal footing didn’t last long, however, as the hosts regained their lead from the penalty spot five minutes later, courtesy of a composed finish from Kim Little.

Midfielder Jordan Nobbs made the game safe with 20 minutes to go with another neat finish.

Gunners’ manager Shelley Kerr celebrated the team spirit running through her side after watching them net their eighth straight league win.

“We’re delighted with the three points obviously. That’s the most important thing at this stage of the season,” she said.

“In the first half especially we created so many chances and their goalkeeper has had a great game. Defensively they were difficult to break down too.

“I don’t like singling out any players in the team. It was a tough game and I think overall we’re delighted that the team performance earned us the three points.”
