MIDFIELD dynamo Aaron Ramsey says football can learn from rugby when it comes to the use of video technology.
The Wales international found the back of the net against Liverpool on Monday night, but his celebrations were short-lived as the goal was ruled offside.
Replays proved that the Arsenal man was, in fact, onside before firing the ball past Simon Mignolet, leaving a frustrated Ramsey calling for a change to the game.
“The replays suggest I was onside, so it should have stood,” he said. “But the linesman thought it was offside. Those things happen. On another day, we would have been 1-0 up in what was a big game.
“To look at a video for 20 seconds would maybe have changed the outcome of the game. I think we can take a leaf out of rugby’s book. They do it really well. You see on the screens, they go up there for 20 seconds and they get the decision right in the end. Football can learn something from that.”
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger was left equally frustrated by the offside decision as the game finished goalless, the fifth time in six games that Arsenal have failed to find the back of the net at the Emirates Stadium.
“It was a regular goal. I can’t see why it was cancelled,” he said. “It’s clear and, on that front, you cannot say that Liverpool can complain.”
