LAURENT Koscielny says “we saw a very good face of Arsenal” in Tuesday night’s Champions League victory against Bayern Munich.
Late strikes from substitute Olivier Giroud and Mesut Ozil saw the Gunners run out 2-0 winners at the Emirates Stadium, inflicting the Bundesliga champions’ first defeat this season in the process.
Koscielny said he was proud of Arsenal’s resolute defensive display, adding that they have now set the benchmark for the rest of the season.
“Defensively we were together like a unit, we defended to help our team-mates and we played on the counter-attack,” he told Arsenal Player.
“I think we were very good and we had a lot of potential to score. Bayern hadn’t lost a game this season, so it was very hard and tough for us. But sometimes you need to play differently and everybody in front of the defence did their job well
“It was a very good performance and we need to keep this up for the rest of the season. You can see the team were very focused in their defensive job, which is very important because for the first two games of the Champions League we did not play well.
“But against Bayern we saw a very good face of Arsenal and we need to keep this up for the other games because, like I said before, sometimes when it is more difficult you need to be stronger when you defend.”
