HIGHBURY can expect a completely different crowd next summer as Boyzone fans are due to descend there for two days next June. After their first date at the Emirates Stadium sold out in no time, Boyzone had to announce a second show – they will now be playing two massive shows in Highbury – on June 5 and 6. But will the crowd control be the same as for the Arsenal fans …?
• October looks busy for The Forum with The Pharcyde celebrating their second album Labcabincalifornia’s 30th anniversary on Oct 17, while Souls of Mischief, who join them, mark 32 years since the release of album 93 ’til Infinity. Also coming up at the venue: Mercury Music Prize and nominated duo Nova Twins return with album Parasites & Butterflies, (Oct 18); Sting brings his 3.0 Tour supported by Sophie Grey (Oct 24); The Wedding Present stop off on their 40th Anniversary Tour joined by Belle and Chain and Mozart Estate (Oct 25); and Galway’s NewDad perform new music, highlights from debut album Madra, and recent Safe EP on Oct 28.
• Classically Black returns to Kings Place for a second year – an all-day event exploring the experience of being a minority in classical music and championing the work of Black music artists and creators past and present. With panel discussions and events looking at new works from classical to hip-hop and featuring performances from the Sabi Ensemble, Simmy Singh the The Jollof House Party Opera and more, plus DJ Spoony closing out the night hosting BLiM’s 5th Anniversary Celebration featuring live performances from Keke Le Roc, Lifford, MC Ranking, MC Viper, Thomas Jules and Romina Johnson plus much more on the day.
• Having supported Ocean Colour Scene, Dodgy and Huey Morgan, and with their latest EP reaching number 7 in the UK charts, The 355s have been working hard to get their big guitar sounds heard. They play the Dublin Castle on Oct 17, sharing the bill with Chris Helme, frontman of John Squire’s post Stone Roses band The Seahorses, who will be playing solo tracks and songs from The Seahorses.
• Talking of OCS, Simon and Oscar from Ocean Colour Scene play songs from the band at Islington Assembly Hall on Oct 19. Their intimate acoustic performances can be magical as Simon reminisces and the duo run through big hits, anthems, deep cuts and choice picks from the band’s song book – a nostalgic and personal experience and one for true fans who sing along softly at times.
• Bobbie Dazzle and Silveroller play The Lower Third on Oct 24.
• Punjabi artist Talwiinder’s music attracts millions of views online. His melodious genre-crossing sounds, maintain an element of the laid back and are often sung in Urdu or Punjabi. The San Francisco based artist, known for his painted face, can be heard in person at Outernet on Oct 19 if you can get a ticket.
• At 80, Billy Cobham’s name is synonymous with jazz drumming history. Cobham, who has worked with Miles Davis and Mahavishnu Orchestra in his illustrious career, plays Union Chapel on October 25.
• Since reforming in 2022, The Enemy seem unstoppable, playing a sold-out reunion tour to nearly 40,000, massive festival appearances and with rumours of a fifth album, their mission continues. They play Electric Ballroom on Oct 17 with support from Callum Beatie and Shale.
• Club de Fromage caters for all this year with three huge Halloween parties – no excuses to miss them this time. First, for the over 30s, their Halloween Daytime Party takes place at Scala on Oct 25 from 3pm – don’t forget to bring ID. As ever, fancy dress is encouraged and there will be the usual shenanigans. Then, on Oct 25 and Nov 1, Murder On The Dancefloor Pt 1 and 2 at Islington Academy kicks off with the usual mix of pop, indie disco, dance, ghoulish decoration, air guitar artistes Lucifer’s Grandmother will be shredding those invisible strings, expect Apple bobbing, spooky sing-alongs, hula-hooping, scary visuals, limbo, the Fromage dance competition, and the Golden Alfie Award for best spooky fancy dress.
• Two of Persian rap’s most powerful voices – Khalse and Hihopologist – are uniting to play scala on Oct 26 ft DJ Nojan with percussion by Aliz.
• Toyah will perform hits from across her career at Union Chapel on Oct 28.
