• Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre can be one of the most magical settings for live performances. And, as we have experienced in the past week, September can be all seasons in one day. But that should not put you off experiencing any of the music takeover shows planned for the theatre this month: go prepared and enjoy! First up are singer-songwriter and actor siblings Johnny and Lillie Flynn, who bring their first joint music project to the theatre on Sept 23-24, although the two are prolific performers and well-known for their work individually: Johnny composed and sang the theme tune for The Detectorists among many others and both have numerous TV and film credits. Bear’s Den play on Sept 25, Richard Hawley plays two nights (Sept 26-27) and Asha Banks closes the month on Sept 28.

• As winter thoughts creep in, BST’s Hyde Park festival has announced two headliners for next year already: after his emotional return to the stage at Glastonbury this year, Lewis Capaldi will headline the Great Oak stage on July 11 and, continuing the popular country wave, old hand, Garth Brooks will show how it’s done on June 27.

• It’s a shame Camden Music Festival was unable to fulfil its full potential this year, having been scaled back at the last-minute due to safety concerns raised by other events happening across London. Hopefully third time lucky next year…?

• We hear a new 550-capacity event space 77 is opening in Marylebone this month. Designed to host live music and DJ sets, Kerri Chandler (Sept 26) and Skepta (Sept 27) are slated to play the launch weekend.

• The nominees for the Abbey Road Music Photography Awards have been announced: always an intriguing selection, head to the website to see the shortlist and vote for music moment of the year: abbeyroadmusicphotographyawards.com/vote

• You might recognise Caity Baser from her many recent festival appearances or her attitude-laden single Pretty Boys. She plays Koko on Sept 25, her first performance with a full live band since the release of EP There, I Said It, you get the vibe…

• Jazz Café has another packed programme, including hip-hop royalty from around the world: Brazil’s Don L + DJ Martelo (Sept 19); 90s Bronx rapper and producer Lord Finesse + Spin Doctor (Sept 22);  British hip-hop artist Jehst (Sept 29); and DJ Vadim presents One Self ft Yarah Bravo, Blu Rum13, Killa Kela, Sanity, Laville + DJ Snuff + Tafara (Oct 1). Also coming up are: Grammy-winning gospel and r’n’b singer Bebe Winans previewing his upcoming album plus Jake Isaac (Sept 20),  a Q&A with artists Nooriyah, G33, Saint Ludo and Karen Nyame KG as they discuss topics that affect their creative work, including identity, self-doubt, community and the hidden costs of life as a DJ (Sept 23); Spanish Roots Reggae from duo Iseo & Dodosound (Sept 30) and genre-defying Kyoto Jazz Massive on Sept 24.

• Reserving judgment on the new Fame Factory concept opening next month: where participants taste the trappings of fame, with agents and bodyguards, photographers and publicists, perform in front of adoring fans, take part in glossy photoshoots, walk the red carpet and appear on TV talk shows. With the focus on fame without talent, is the idea hollow  and soulless or a fun opportunity to experience the high life for a fleeting moment? Perhaps the performance element gives space for those talents to shine: we may just have to see for ourselves…

• Punk ‘n’ Roll Rendez-Vous anniversary festival takes place at The Water Rats this weekend (Sept 18-21) with 18 acts over three days and featuring the likes of Rites of Hadda, Ace and the Oddity, Desperate Measures, Healthy Junkies, Lady Rage, Battery Acid, French Toast, Yur Mum, PollyPikPocketz and many more plus DJ sets from DJ Ramone.

Marking 10 years since their move from London to Nashville to record their debut album, Worry Dolls reunite for a one-off matinée at Green Note on Sept 28. The duo, who have been championed by Bob Harris and have played with Robert Plant, are known for their harmonies and songwriting. Rosie and Zoe will play solo sets before uniting to play their trademark harmonies: each ticket includes a free vinyl copy of Go Get Gone. Also at Green Note, Canadian singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Hawksley Workman plays four dates bringing his genre-defying blend of theatrical indie rock, folk, and alt-pop to the venue (Sept 23 + 27, Oct 7 + 11).
