‘Green’ Labour is eclipsing solar power from our roofs

2017 Total Solar Eclipse

Blocking out sustainable power

• I AM confused… as far as I knew, being as green as we can be is Labour Party policy.

Wind turbines on- and off-shore, maybe a tidal barrier in Scotland and solar, on roofs, wherever possible.

But I have run into a problem.

This week I was thinking of buying a flat in Kentish Town that is leasehold, with the freeholder being the council. Before putting in an offer there were things I needed to know.

One of these was, although this was a ground-floor flat, would I be allowed to install solar panels on the roof of the building, which has a pitched roof very well suited to panels?

The answer came back from the council – no.

Leaseholders are never allowed to have solar panels because the owner/freeholder is the council, which is responsible for maintaining roofs.

Now I have had solar panels on first a house, then to a downsized flat (shared freehold) and now need to downsize again to something that has no stairs.

The roofs that had the panels were not in any way damaged by the panels and, as far as I know, remain intact and healthy to this day.

Can it really be true that our Labour council and our Labour Party might not be sharing a hymn book?
