WE gave our readers three good reasons to celebrate the start of the new football season by highlighting that Camden duo Anthony Wordsworth and Danny Hylton and Islington’s Duane O’Achie were flying the flag for their respective boroughs within the professional ranks.
The happiest of the trio will no doubt be striker Danny, who came off the bench to earn League Two side Oxford United a stunning victory away at Bristol City on Tuesday in the opening round of the League Cup.
League One side Bristol took the lead after only 70 seconds, but Carlton Morris levelled the scores just short of the hour mark.
Danny, who grew up in Regent’s Park, settled the tie three minutes from time when he coolly slotted the ball past the keeper to shock the home support.
Meanwhile Duane, who grew up in Holloway, came off the bench in the 66th minute for Conference side Torquay and set-up a goal for team-mate Louis Briscoe on Saturday.
It’s unlikely the towering striker will be that pleased with his assist, however, as it proved to be just a consolation for the Gulls, who slipped to a 3-1 defeat away to Gateshead.
In the Championship midfielder Anthony got some valuable pitch time under his belt as he looks to regain his place in the Ipswich starting line-up following an injury-hit season last term.
