SCORES of talented young footballers from across Camden and Islington will embrace the spirit of giving on Saturday when they take part in a special Charity Cup at Market Road.
The day-long tournament will see 32 teams aged from Under-8s to Under-11s turn out at the artificial pitches to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children.
Organiser Carlos Casimiro, who also runs top youth club Cally Stars, called on parents and players not taking part in the competition to still come along on the day and show their support.
“The reason Great Ormond Street is our chosen charity is simple,” he said. “It’s a children’s charity and all the clubs taking part are for children. So all-in-all it was the perfect fit.
“Since launching Cally Stars a few of our players, or their siblings, have been patients at Great Ormond Street and we wanted to give something back.
“Everyone is welcome to come along on Saturday between 9am and 5pm and show their support for what is a fantastic cause.
“I also want to thank sponsors GMB and the London Trophy Company in advance as they’ve both been tremendous in helping us host the Charity Cup.”
George Sharkey from GMB Islington and Haringey branch said the general trade union was happy to pitch in and show their support. “GMB sees itself as one big family,” he said.
“My branch sponsors Cally Stars, and when they asked for our help in organising the tournament we were more than happy to play our part.”
