Goldfinger did live in one of his tower blocks

• YOU say in your August 10 editorial “Perhaps if those who designed tower blocks lived in them they would be more fire-proof”, (Tenants deserve answers over safety of their windows).

Ernӧ Goldfinger did just that. In 1968 he and his wife Ursula lived for two months in Balfron Tower, which he designed, in east London. He has been called a champagne socialist but he was keen to test his own ideas about social housing.

He also designed Trellick Tower, where a fairly serious fire broke out in April but was contained. The block is about 20 minutes’ walk from Grenfell Tower, not designed by Goldfinger.
