Go Dutch with bikes

• WHY do cyclists ride on the pavement? I am an elderly pedestrian, cyclist and driver. As all three I think it is time to treat cyclists like any other road user.
Walking from south Kentish Town to St Pancras I was brushed harshly by one cyclist on the pavement who didn’t stop when I called out “Pavements are for pedestrians”.
Another cyclist stopped amiably at my outstretched arms but still rode on, a third also on the pavement pushed me harshly aside and did not stop.
Any of them might have felled me. Fractures heal slowly in the old. Besides this inconsiderate behaviour all motorists and pedestrians are familiar with cyclists who jump lights and ride in the dark without lighting themselves.
The beginnings of a bureaucratic solution would be to copy the Dutch and register cyclists and put number plates on all bikes. What do readers, cyclists too, think?
