Councillor Adam Harrison ‘not worth of his job title of cabinet member for improving Camden’s environment’

• I’M pleased that the use of glyphosate containing herbicide issue has been raised, although Adam Harrison sounds so disappointingly passive, uninformed, insincere and not worth of his job title “cabinet member for improving Camden’s environment”, (Camden to continue using glyphosate weedkiller, October 11).

I live in Holly Lodge Mansions, next to Highgate cemeteries and Waterloo Park, one of the greenest areas of the borough. This should be a conservation area as we have so much wildlife around here and yet the council give permission to spray this pesticide in the grass outside our blocks where, actually, our cats would munch on grass almost every day.

I’ve stood as a protest on a patch of grass last summer to stop this man in protective clothing spraying. I’ve lived here since 1994 and I can definitely say that so many wild flowers have disappeared and since a couple of years almost no bumblebees. My flat used to get dozens and dozens of bumblebees in spring… now hardly any!

So, why Cllr Harrison take such a terrible risk? And why do you want to take chances with our health, environment and ultimately our lives? Why add to all the carcinogenic elements already in our life?

There’s actually scientific research that proves the harm of glyphosate use on bees; please check The Ecologist paper online with the study reference: theecologist.org/2015/sep/20/glyphosate-harms-bees-spatial-learning.
