Sir Robert Peel pocket their fourth league title in a row

WITH less than two weeks to go before the start of the new season, players from the Chalk Farm Pool League were given a timely reminder just what they’re fighting for when the organisers from Camden and Islington’s top pub and club competition hosted a glitzy awards presentation. 

The lavish do saw members treated to a laser show, dry ice and a DJ as they packed into the Sir Robert Peel pub in Queen’s Crescent to collect all of their trophies and prize money following what was another sensational season at the tables.

As expected, hosts Peel had plenty of success to parade in front of their rivals after being crowned division one champions for the fourth year in a row, while two of their top players, Sonny Saunders and Danny James, regained the doubles title. 

The King’s Cross Barbarians capped a magnificent debut season by winning the division two title and the Divisional Two Cup, while Islington’s Cousins Elite won the Divisional One Cup. 

Boston Arms were presented with the Liam Tarrant Cup, with star player Pat McCaghy also winning the singles title. 

Mark Piercey and Nick Phillips were also celebrating after receiving the Hot Shots Trophy, given to the top potter from each division. The triumph was especially sweet for first division highflyer Piercey, who also won the seniors team B1 Cup for England at the Nations Cup.
