• I USED to be a casual bowler at the Mansfield Bowling Club and witnessed its tragic demise, closure and subsequent selling for development.

The site was, I understand, originally bequeathed for the benefit of the community so it feels wrong for individuals to benefit financially from that loss.

As a paid-up “social member” I recently received a cheque for £1,050 as a share of the sale, and full members will, presumably, receive considerably more.

My payment will be going to Acland Burghley School and I strongly urge other recipients to donate their cheques to the local community too.
