Hat-trick of wins: the Islington Borough Under-10s team

Published: 22 January, 2015

SUPPORTERS and players from Islington Borough Ladies FC and Hampstead FC had plenty to celebrate this week after netting entertaining wins in their respective league and cup outings.

Islington’s Under-10s girls’ team made it a hat-trick of wins in the Capital Girls League by beating neighbouring rivals Camden 10-8 in a topsy-turvy game at Chase Lodge in Mill Hill.

Into the semi-finals: Hampstead’s Under-15s

“There was some excellent play, but most importantly the girls are having fun, developing their skills and trying out new skills and techniques,” said Islington Women and Girls Football Development Officer, Steve Fraser.

Meanwhile Hampstead cruised through to the semi-finals of the Capital Cup courtesy of a 2-0 victory over Brentford Girls FC.

Captain Melanie Hall opened the scoring with a wonderful run and shot into the far corner from the edge of the box midway through the first half. Caitlin Buffery made the game safe for the Under-15s late on with a composed finish.

Formally known as the London Cup, the girls have a wonderful relationship with the competition.

They won it two years ago as Under-13s, and were runners-up last season after narrowly being beaten in the final.
