SCORES of excited young footballers will be making their way to The London Marathon Playing Fields at Chase Lodge in Mill Hill on Saturday to take part in the newly-formed Capital Girls’ League.

A joint venture between London and Middlesex FAs, the competition will feature a series of four v four games in the under-10s age group and seven-a-side games in the under-12s category.

In a special launch, teams including Hampstead, who are hosting the league, enjoyed a festival of football as they tested their skills on the speed gun and inflatable targets.

The girls also got to meet Arsenal Ladies player Jordan Nobbs, who brought with her the FA Women’s Super League trophy and the Women’s FA Cup that the Gunners added to their trophy cabinet this season.

The festival was topped off with the players receiving free tickets to Arsenal Ladies’ UEFA Champions League game against FC Bobruichanka of Belarus on October 5 at Boreham Wood FC.

Natalie Doyle, chair of the Capital Girls’ League and Women’s and Girls’ Officer for London FA, said: “The launch of the latest project between Middlesex and London FAs was a great success!

“It’s fantastic finally to be able to provide London and Middlesex clubs with local playing opportunities.”
