THERE was certainly plenty for fans to cheer about as players from Hampstead Girls celebrated lifting the inaugural Capital Girls League Cup at Barnet FC’s training ground, The Hive.
In a 13-goal thriller the under-12s side had to come from behind no fewer than three times before finally overcoming rivals Brentford 7-6 in a stunning showpiece for girls’ football.
Hotshot Gabby Schmitt-Castilla had a final to remember as she netted a stunning hat-trick.
Keeper Melanie Hall, who took off her goalie gloves to lead the Hampstead attack in the second half, also scored three – one of which came while she was still in goal when her long kick downfield evaded everyone and bounced into the back of the net.
Alexis Taylor showed tremendous composure to score a crucial penalty in the topsy-turvy encounter.
Twin sisters and Hampstead coaches Avril and Dawn Clark echoed each others views as they praised one of the games of the season at the sound of the final whistle.
“We are proud of the girls, they put in such a great team performance.
It was a fantastic and exciting game of football in which Brentford played their part.
Each and every girl gave 100 per cent and showed why they deserved to be in the final.
“We are very pleased to manage such a great bunch of girls and a special thanks must go to all the supporters who spurred the girls on to victory.”
