Lee Anderson MP was invited to a private event in Primrose Hill

• Councillor Gio Spinella is affronted that we in Holborn and St Pancras do not consult him about who we discuss politics with (Tory leader said he would not invite ‘carpet-bagger’ Lee Anderson to Camden, CNJ online, April 28).

He rants about Lee Anderson, a highly principled, clear-sighted Conservative MP, an MP who spent his early years as a coal miner and who has a much clearer understanding of hardship than almost all his MP colleagues.

Lee Anderson states the generally recognised truth that, in our open-handed, welfare state, some people game the system. He believes in open, robust discussion, with no holds barred, about big issues. Cllr Spinella believes in closing down discussion and insulting your opponent.

In similar vein, as treasurer of the Holborn and St Pancras Conservative party, I regretfully regard his intervention as the work of a lightweight, mildly paranoid, snob.
