COUSINS Elite caused a massive cup upset on Monday night when they beat reigning Chalk Farm Pool League champions Sir Robert Peel to capture the Divisional One Cup.

The highly prized  competition incorporates handicapped scoring based on league positions in a bid to make for more thrilling and competitive cup finals.

So teams who are 15 points or fewer behind their opponents get a one frame head start and teams 30 points adrift enjoy a two frame advantage.

With that in play, Peel were effectively starting 1-0 down, but, showing the sort of form that has seen them win the Division One title for four years in a row, soon raced into a 4-2 lead.

Barbarians: Division Two Cup winners

The contest looked as good as over when Danny James lined up what seemed a simple final yellow, especially with the black loitering over the pocket.

But, with the cue ball tight on the baulk cushion, James missed the shot and opponent Peter Berrie took full advantage to win the frame.

It swung the contest in Cousins’s favour, with Adam Gad going on to seal a memorable 5-4 victory for the Holloway Road-based side when he potted a simple black into the centre pocket in the deciding frame.

Players from the King’s Cross Barbarians were also celebrating after coming from 4-2 down to beat Boston Old Skool 5-4 in the final of the Divisional Two Cup.
