Get your act together on library reopening, Camden
Thursday, 9th July 2020
• ALTHOUGH the government permitted libraries to open on July 4, Camden Council have not yet opened theirs.
Asking why, on the phone, I was told that “they are trying to secure the libraries against Covid-19 before opening”.
All very well but they have had three months to do this and adequate warning that library opening would be permitted. By the way, nothing was going on in Kentish Town library Monday morning.
Anyway, how difficult is it to Covid-secure the library? Social distancing around the bookshelves is easy, maybe a plastic screen account the enquiries desk and only using every other computer where they are placed in a row.
Some hand sanitiser to clean the keyboards and away you go! Some of us don’t have computers or smartphones – for all sorts of reasons – and we rely on our libraries for email and browsing the internet, let alone browsing books.
Come on Camden Council, get your act together!
