Heath Cartoon

Cartoon by John Sadler

• THE City of London is wise to be gazing into the future. Dan Carrier (What will the Heath look like in 2067? May 25) seems to be unaware that those already consulted on the issue a fortnight ago were less concerned about “managing grassland” but keener to identify what kind of Heath user should be anticipated.

London of 2067, for example, will include more housing stress, fewer grandparents and children, less cars and more bikes. Paddling pools will likely decline and “natural” pools will be in the ascendant.

Rightly or wrongly the very rich will prosper, as will those at the other extreme. Accordingly, the shaping of the Heath of the future should reflect the demography of north London. Only then will the 2067 Heath speculation be relevant.

To do otherwise will create a Heath in 2017 aspic, misleading the Heath Management Committee and, in turn, its staff.
